Terms & Conditions
- Sales tax: If ordering from San Francisco, you owe 8 1/2% sales
tax on merchandise. If ordering from elsewhere in California, you owe 7 1/4%
sales tax.
- Shipping charges: Shipping is $5 for the first book and $2.50 for
each additional book, per ship-to address. US orders are shipped media mail.
For foreign orders contact us for the shipping charge before ordering. We
are not responsible for the carrier’s actions (including but not limited to
length of shipping time or damage). We’re not making a profit on shipping;
we publish large, heavy books!
- How to pay: Please pay by check or money order made out to Lavolta Press.
Personal checks are allowed to clear for about two weeks before shipping.
Payment must be in US dollars. Sorry, we can’t accept credit card, phone, or
email orders.
- There is no consumer discount for buying more than one book at a time, even if the
books are volumes of a multivolume work.
- Please send us your email address so we can continue to notify
you about new books when they are published. If you don’t place an order
at this time, you can email it to sales@lavoltapress.com. Include your name
and postal address so we are sure to enter your email in the correct database
record. We have no plans to start a newsletter or to sell your address to
other companies. If you wish, you may also send your URL.
- It is not our policy to send confirmation or other routine status
emails. We do not have an automated
system for those. We do contact customers if there is an actual problem
with an order (which is seldom). Please inquire if you really think there is a
problem, but not just to ask if we received or
shipped your order a few days after you sent it.
- Dealer, school, and library inquiries are welcome. Please

Sorry, we can’t give a discount on any single-copy order or provide
complimentary copies.
Occasional Special Offers
Very occasionally, we have “hurt” books available for sale
at a deep discount to individual customers. These are new, perfectly readable books with slight damage such as scuffed covers or bumped corners. We cannot provide detailed descriptions or photos of
hurt copies on the site or personally, unless they are significantly damaged, in which case there will be a description with the book listing. (They’ve been screened, but
our books are all stored in a warehouse across the bay from our offices.)
Orders for them are processed on
a first-come, first-serve basis. Please email your reservation for the desired
book. We will inform you if it is still available and reserve it for one
week. If we do not receive payment by then, we will take the reserve off so
that anyone else who is interested can buy the book. Please do not reserve a
book unless you will definitely buy it. Please print
our order form and mail it to us with payment.
Sorry, we can’t guarantee availability. We do not maintain a waiting/notification
list for, or reserve, future hurt copies. If you don’t see the
book that interests you on this page, no discount copies are available.
Please check for it the next time you visit our web site. Currently available are three copies of The Edwardian Modiste with the bottom edges of some pages "pushed in." They are otherwise fine and
clean and readable throughout. The price of each is $20 (plus sales tax for
California residents) plus $5 shipping for the first
book and $2.50 for each additional book, sent by USPS media mail.
